Treatments for New Ponds
So you finalised the design, struck spade to earth perfecting the shape and duly lined and finished it only becomes a pond when filed with water.
Most of us will fill our new pond with tap water and there are things in tap water which are not great for fish and other pond life. In order to remove these undesirables and quickly make the pond safe a water conditioner is used which will remove chlorine and metallic compounds such as copper, zinc and aluminium. Essential for new ponds and subsequent water changes.
If fitting a filter this will take many weeks to become established potentially allowing toxic organics to build up posing a threat to fish, addition of a filter start bacteria will quickly establish the filter function bringing it up to optimum function very quickly.
