Aquarium Air Pumps
Aquarium Air Pumps are small devices that sit outside the aquarium & pump air into it. They can be used to interesting effect by pumping air through rocks or ornaments or creating bubble curtains.
The air is delivered from the pump to the aquarium via a length of airline & the end of the airline terminates in an air stone or other diffuser attachment that dissipates the air into the water as a fine stream of bubbles. A non return valve should be fitted into the airline at a point between the aquarium & the pump to prevent water syphoning back from the aquarium into the pump mechanism in the event that power to the pump is switched off. If a non return valve is not fitted then the pump must be positioned above the maximum water level of the aquarium.
